Okay, so for the past year taking my kids down to my parent's house for an afternoon/early evening visit has = the following for me, food wise: get to my parents and start eating potato chips, tortilla chips, fiber one bars, nuts nuts nuts, any candy I could find, and chex mix. I would just keep heading back into the kitchen to get more. After a while I would ask my parent's if they would mind watching the kids for a bit so I could head out to a store, and on my way to go shopping I would stop at Hanaford's and get a big bag of yogurt covered pretzels (and eat them while I drove) and sometimes I would stop at a diner called "Cravings" and get a massive cupcake and eat that too. Back at my parent's we would usually get pizza and I would have at least 3 slices of that.
I went yesterday and this is what I had from 3pm on: a banana and a handful of cashews (then I went on a walk with my mom). At dinner I had one very small piece of pizza from the small pizza, two slices of pizza from the onion pizza, half an apple and water.
I would say that yesterdays visit was a BIG improvement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wouldn't you?
Compared to what you were doing....Yes.
ReplyDeleteMike, at this point I'm not trying to do "the perfect diet", I'm just trying to cut back from where I was. You have NO idea how much I've cut back. I was going out and sneaking food A LOT. I mean, going out on MASSIVE dessert binges. What I'm doing now may not be the most ideal way to lose weight but I'm THRILLED that I can eat a meal and then stop. I haven't been able to do that for a LONG time and it feels so good to be gaining some control back again.
ReplyDeleteYou have already shown self control in that you are cutting back, now it's time to turn it up a notch. The ability to fight the cravings, and not give in is when you will finally start seeing how easy it can be. We don't order pizza, because I know if I do I will eat the entire thing. The hardest part is starting, and you have already done that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mike about not ordering pizza. I do this every time I go to the store. If I don't buy it, it won't get home and if it doesn't get home, I can't eat it. :) Same with pizza; you don't order it, you can't eat it.
ReplyDeleteI also only stick to the perimeter of the store when I go. Think of what is there...veggies, fruits, the deli, the meat section, seafood, dairy, etc...you get the point. The only items I go down ailes for is bread (I have half a turkey sandwich for lunch almost every day) and a loaf lasts me weeks. I make 2 sandwiches a week and freeze the bread I don't make a sandwich with. I also hit the ailes for the tiny cans of tomato sauce (one little 6oz can gets me two dinners), black beans and tuna. Then I get the heck outta dodge before anything else catches my eye!!
Keep it up colleen!! You can do it. I lost about 60 pounds in grad school and despite not having kept the "weight" off per se, I am about the same size because I got in the gym a lot and gained muscle. :)
Thanks for the comments Shannon and Mike :-) Shannon, congrats on YOUR weight loss...that's awesome! I have to tell you that since going off the antidepressant (maybe two months ago now) my need to overeat/binge eat has GREATLY subsided. Also, since I've done Weight Watchers twice now, I know how to eat and what to eat and even though I'm not tracking points right now, I'm always aware of knowing "about" what I should be eating (calorie wise) per day. So yesterday, I know I went over points (between the bagel and the pizza), but today I know I was well withing the normal range.
